Program Goals

Provide the Health Care community with the most diversified, well-trained individuals, assisting medical professionals in fulfilling their daily professional needs. Upon completion of the MRI Program, graduates are eligible to take the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) National Certification Examination.

Objectives of the Program

Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:
- Perform MRI scans using proper procedures, and patient positioning
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy
- Perform venipunctures for contrast administration
- Maintain safety by exercising magnetic safety procedures universal precautions
- Obtain, analyze and incorporate relevant patient information to provide the most accurate diagnostic outcomes

Admissions Requirements


To be considered for acceptance into the program, the applicant must meet the following criteria:
1.High School Diploma, GED, or Equivalent (Diplomas from foreign countries must be evaluated before enrolling)
2.Be at least 18 years of age or older
3.Healthcare CPR Certification
4.Pass IME’s entrance exam
5.Current Immunization record
6. Prerequisite courses: (These can be taken at IME and are included in tuition)
.Anatomy and Physiology
(Prerequisite courses must have been completed in the last 5 years with a passing grade)

Course Description

The MRI Technology program is a certificate program designed to provide excellence in MRI education. The student will receive both didactic (classroom lectures) and clinical education. Approximate program length is 20 months Students spend twenty hours per week attending didactic and laboratory training. The didactic and clinical education is taught by a team of highly experienced faculty and staff who were chosen for their commitment to teaching and clinical expertise. They are committed to provide the best possible educational environment and instruction to assure competency in all areas of the established curriculum. After completion of the didactic portion, students will be placed in a clinical rotation in one of IME’s various contracted medical facilities. During clinical rotations, students will work with experienced medical technicians and physicians and gain valuable hands-on experience. Upon completion of the program, a certificate of completion will be awarded and graduates will be eligible to sit for the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) National Certification examination. Job Outlook

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics: “Employment of radiologic technologists is expected to increase by about 17 percent from 2008 to 2018, faster than the average for all occupations” Around 61 percent of MRI positions were in hospitals. The majority of other positions were found in physician offices, medical/diagnostic laboratories and outpatient care centers. According to Salary.com the median annual MRI technologist salary in San Jose, CA is $78,117. In Oakland, CA the median annual salary is $74,016.

Health care continues to change at an ever- increasing rate, there continues to be a need for highly skilled professionals who can work in the physician's office, clinic, and hospital environment. The profession of medical assistant can be a career in itself or could be the stepping stone to other careers such as nursing or medical office manager. The advantages of the course are that it is a fast track program which helps you get started in your field of choice in (just three months) a couple of months. Upon completion of this program, students will have the training and experience necessary for the various areas of clinical medical health care. Included are the front and back office skills characteristic of the clinical medical professional, providing students the flexibility to pursue a variety of vocational avenues based upon individual interests.
